DJ Magazine

While zombie-ing (yes that is now a verb) the airport in Turkey for X amount of hours I found this magazine. It is called "DJ Magazine" I think you can figure out what its focus is. In that month's edition they listed the world's top 100 clubs. I was rather curious to find out if any Romanian clubs were in it, so I flipped through it. And what did I find?? Well, the first Romanian club to be on the list was no other than Studio Martin at number 39. Unfortunately I have never been there but I have heard a lot about the place. The second Romanian club was Kristal Glam Club at number 56 which is my favourite club. I have MANY memories from that place, one being Halloween 2008. A club called Club Midi came in on 57 but it is in Cluj so I have never been there.

Rather cool to have 3 Romanian clubs top the world's 100 list. I was surprised to not see Bamboo there... oh well. To go see the list click here.

New Header

image128

In memory of the amazing designer I have changed my headerm which is now occuped by Kate Moss of Yves Saint-Laurent spring / summer 2008.
Yves died yesterday at the age of 71 in his home in Paris, after a long time of being ill.
Yves Saint-Laurent was the man who made Paris into the fashion metropolitan of the world, and the man who made the first female tuxedo collection.

He is being mourned by the entire fashion industry and me.

Heath Ledger in Peace

I heard about it yesterday. But it was more like "LINN!!!!! HEATH LEDGER IS DEAD!!!!!!!!!!!!" from my mum in her office. First I thought she was joking. I still think she it. It hasn't sunken in yet. He was such a good actor. He really was a rising star of hollywood. There aren't really any of the really good actors in today. And now, one who had the potential has left the world. My he rest in peace.

He was found dead in his bed by on of the maids.
Cause of death is unknown, but it was an overdose of some sort.

In Focus: Amy Winehouse

image97

The past year she has gone in and out of rehab for various reasons, most of them including drugs. Amy Jade Winehouse was born into a Jewish family on the 14th of September 1983, with a history of jazz musicians. Her father, Mitchell Winehouse, was a taxi driver and her mother, Janis, was a pharmacist. She grew up in the suburb Southgate, outside London and attended the Ashmole School. But at the age of 10 she changed to the Sylivia Young Theatre School where she was later expelled due to the fact that she wasn't "applying herself" and pierced her nose.

After playing around with her brothers guitar for a while she got her own when she was 13, at 14 she started to write her own music as well as experimenting with drugs. She dropped out of school during the same year, soon after she began to work as a "showbiz journalist" for the World Entertainment New Network and singing in a jazz band. Her on-off soul singing boyfriend Tyler James sent a record to a record label and after receiving her first check she moved out of Ashby.

Amy debuted with her album Frank on October 20, 2003. Apart from the two covers on the CD all the songs were co-written by Winehouse. The critics liked the album and compared her to Sarah Vaughan, Macy Gray as well as others.

Three years later, 2006, her second album came, Back to Black, the album appeared on the UK Album Charts numerous time and came 7th on the US Billboard. This was the highest debut ever by a British female solo artist, which Joss Stone crushed two weeks later.

Since the start of her fame Winehouse has been in the media spotlight many times. Although she has denied that she is suffering from bipolar disorder, (an affective disorder characterized by periods of mania alternating with periods of depression, usually interspersed with relatively long intervals of normal mood.)she has admitted for having eating disorders, depression, as well as self-harm.

On May 18th, 2007 she married her on-off boyfriend Blake Fielder-Civil in Miami. In August same year she canceled all her concerts and went to rehab, with husband. But left 5 days later. During the same month the couple were photographed bruised and bloodied after, according to Amy, a fight with her husband due to the fact that he had found her doing drugs with a call girl.

Amy is known for her voice as well as her drug problems. People magazine called her "a perfect storm of sex kitten, raw talent and poor impulse control." She has attracted the attention of the media with her strange appearances, on December 2nd she appeared in the early hours outside her London house in bra, jeans and barefoot.

She's only 24 with six Grammy nods, crashing headfirst into success and despair, with a codependent husband in jail, exhibitionist parents with questionable judgment, and the paparazzi documenting her emotional and physical distress. Meanwhile, haute designer Karl Lagerfeld appropriates her disheveled style and eating issues to market to the elite while proclaiming her the new Bardot.[1]

In Focus: Karl Lagerfeld

image89

He is one of the most influential fashion designers of the 20th century, the man in question is the one and only Karl Lagerfeld. Born on September 10, 1933 in Hamburg, Germany as the son of a Swedish (!!!) merchant and with a German mother. Although, he doesn't speak Swedish he is fluent in Italian, Spanish, English and German.

He immigrated to Paris at the age of 14 and three years later at the age of 17 he won his first competition for designing a coat, his award was a position at Pierre Balmain. He worked for Pierre Balmain for a couple of years and later went on to take a job with Jean Patou, where he received invaluable knowledge of couture. Although, this job became very boring after only one year and he went out as a freelance designer of fashion houses such as Krizia, Charles Jourdan, and Valentino. By 1964 he had grown so disillusioned with the world of haute couture he decided to move to Italy to study art.

Some time during 1967, Lagerfeld had had enough of art and returned to fashion, and joined Fendi as a fashion consultant. But, during the seventies Lagerfeld was more closely associated with the house of Chloë, where he was given a carte blanche (the privilege to do whatever he wanted) to produce attractive floaty ready-to-wear collections for women. This claimed to rival the contemporary couture. It was the collection for Deco in 1972 that claimed him worldwide fame. This collection consisted of black and white prints and clever bias-cutting. In that year he produced his last collection for Chloë, today designed by Phoebe Philo, and in 1983 he moved to Chanel.

At Chanel he had the title of being director of the collections and the ready-to-wear, and during the same time he launched own label. Today being synonymous with strong tailoring, combining easy-to-wear cardigan jackets in bright colours, which is his favourite and softly shaped knitwear to create something what he describes as "intellectual sexiness". During his time at Chanel he took the fashion house to a totally new level in the nineties and eighties with his fusion of pre-war and contemporary trends. Some moments to look back at during his time their include the time when he teamed the traditional box jacket together with the denim miniskirt in 1991. Combining the club-influenced black fishnet body stockings with the traditional Chanel camellia placed cheekily over the breasts and matching hefty lace-up boots with flowing georgette skirts and leather jackets. By 1997 he was crowned the"unparalleled interpreter of the mood of the moment" by Vogue.

Despite moving from label to label, Lagerfeld has managed to retain a sense of his own style throughout his career. His success lies in an ability to make a bold statement and he is never afraid to try something new. He has also maintained a sense of humour throughout his designing that has produced such legendary pieces as a shower-dress, with beaded water streaming down the front; a car-dress with a radiator grille and fender, and a multitude of outstandingly eccentric hats, from armchairs to cream cakes, translating Chanel trademarks such as the quilted handbag into a range of seasonal must-haves, including the handbag earring, the handbag hat, the doll-sized shoulder bag, the quilted hip bag, the quilted Alice band and the outsize baguette bag.

In my opinion Karl Lagerfeld is the most amazing designer after Coco Chanel. Even though he has moved from fashion house to fashion house over the years he has still been able to maintain the same clean cut style. All of his creations are masterpieces of themselves. Even though his own clothing style has been the same since I can remember, always the high collard white dress shirt, with the black skinny dress pants or are they jeans (?), the black tie, the black biker gloves ans the black sunglasses. His designs are just jaw-dropping.
